An idea of sorts

1. This weekend was BarCampMilwaukee3, and for those of my friends who couldn’t make it, you missed out. I learned things. I got to talk to people who I don’t see very often. I was entertained. All in all, it was great fun. I’m actually sitting here kind of bummed out that it’s over. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for BarCampMilwaukee4. And, Bucketworks is a Milwaukee jewel. Our city is incredibly lucky to have a place like that. I’d love to go back use the power tools.
2. Some of my highlights were Tracy’s social networking session and Blake’s Drupal. So, yeah, I enjoyed the weekend.
3. It got me thinking — a food barcamp-style unconference would be awesome. I know that I’d love to go to things like the Kohler Food & Wine Experience in Kohler, Wis. but admission is craziness and the cost of the sessions is priced definitely not for someone of my income tax bracket. But I love to talk and learn about food, share recipes, people could demo, show of their cool kitchen tech. … I’d even consider opening it up to crafts, too. All night needle craft hack, anyone?
4. I need sleep.

FoodCamp… or KitchenCamp? Yeah, might be cool… People often seem surprised when I tell them I make my own pizza, but it’s pretty darn easy, and it would be cool to share techniques, ideas, etc. Plus, we could tie in sustainability… Maybe we talk to places like The Outpost, or Beans & Barley, local companies who could help with it.

Yeah, homemade pizza is the best, and it’s definitely not as hard as you’d think … even making the dough for scratch. It’s quite forgiving, unless you kill the yeast. Hehe! Yeah, sustainability and organics are things I’d want to have sessions on,… and the Slow Food movement. But also, eating good and cheap.

I would love to help you organize a food-related unconference. I think it sounds like a great idea. If you could get sponorship from someone like Kohler, that’d be in cred i ble. Even failing that though, we can do food stations and … wow. The audience is probably bigger than the nerdcore crowd. I’ve been working closely with the Bucketworks crew and will be doing more with them in the future, so am well positioned to help you.

Food camp sounds awesome. Where are we going to get a bunch of ovens?
